Sevilla, Spain

About a year ago, wanderlust began to creep up on me. I was going on my fourth year in New York City and looking for a way to celebrate, to mark the moment, to give myself some time to reflect on this accomplishment - particularly when sometimes it didn't always feel like an accomplishment. It's easy to forget in the daily grind, that just being here in the city, surviving, putting food in my refrigerator and paying for my monthly subway card - these are things to celebrate and be proud of. At the time my wanderlust began, however, I wasn't feeling like much of anything I was doing was an accomplishment. I was running on empty. I stored money away week after week, and in December, I bought my one way plane ticket to Milan. I was leaving at the beginning of June and all I knew was I would begin in Milan and eventually make it to London, where one of my best friends is currently studying. Beyond that, I didn't have much of a clue.

I ended up in places I never expected - like Sevilla, Spain, which is where this photo of me was taken. I took hundreds and hundreds of pictures, so many I haven't been sure what to do with them. I want to share them with you, but I don't want to put them all together on a giant Facebook album that makes it all a blur of pretty things. So many of them have a story behind them, or are simple and great on their own.

Every Thursday I am going to share a photo here, along with a story.

This photo was taken in the Alcazar in Sevilla - it's a massive palace full of bright mosaics and gorgeous, lush gardens. It's like something from another world. I wanted to share this photo first, because it really captures my feelings about Spain, as well as the whole two month adventure - full of color and life.

Looking forward to sharing more mementos from my trip with you! Ciao!
